Day 45: Trefin to Fishguard
I am spent. That was one tough walk, tough because it got harder as I got more weary. But what a spectacular walk.
The first section took me gently through Abercastell and then a couple of small bays before climbing onto a rough mountain ridge for a few kms around to Pwll Deri YHA. From there were constantly shifting perspectives of Strumble Head lighthouse as the path twisted in and out, up and down through the heather and gorse. Finally, not quite so scenic, the 10kms from Strumble Head followed a rough, twisting trail over small headlands and round bays, with dozens of little ascents and descents.
If you didn’t see yesterday’s addendum, I came to Fishguard because Pwll Deri YHA was full and there was no nearby camp alternative. So I’m in a very pleasant B&B, hosted by Hilary and Jeff, and I can restock with supplies and cash.
I don’t want to get political here, but it has been surprising just how few villages have a shop. Just Broad Haven and Solva on route, or an unwelcome detour.
Now to chill out …
