So after yesterday’s complications, today’s route was a relatively short 40kms on the bike via West Mersea down to Maldon, with it’s Thames barges and historic quayside.
Cycling into an ever-present headwind made the journey seem longer. At first I couldn’t work it out, but I then realised that wind was being funnelled through the hedgerows much as it does between peaks on mountain cols. And it has taken me a time to realise that this is not a race; I’m not accustomed to cycling slowly …
Anyway, Maldon was a preplanned stop to allow to catch up with our friend Caz, of cazphoto fame and fellow 365 photography lifer, who lives nearby. And what a fun evening we had with great food, a good catch up on the events of my walk and life in general.
Again, meeting friends old and new alike has kept this adventure alive and special.
Just three or four more days now to the final walking leg. Stay tuned.
